The National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently released statistics from 2013 related to bicycle accidents. The NHTSA reported that in 2013 there were 743 bicyclists killed and an estimated 48,000 bicyclists injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes. These are staggering numbers and show that this is a serious problem around the country.
Unfortunately, due to the force and types of impact when an automobile collides with a bicycle, one of the most common injuries associated with bicycle accidents are head injuries. Head injuries can be as simple as cuts, scrapes, or bruises, or can be more serious brain injuries, which can lead to long-term disability or even death. For more information about brain injuries check out our previous post on Symptoms of Traumatic Brain Injury. Broken or fractured bones are also quite common in bicycle accidents.
There are laws in South Carolina designed to protect bicyclists, and if you or a loved one has been injured in a bicycle accident, contact an injury attorney at our office for more information about the potential to recover from an at-fault party for your injuries. The Charleston SC Bicycle Accident Attorneys at Anderson & Schuster, Attorneys at Law, LLC will work hard to protect your rights and maximize your recovery.
