Earlier this month the South Carolina Department of Public Safety recognized police officers and agencies from the Charleston area and across the state for their number of DUI arrests made in 2013. A ceremony was held in Columbia where officers and agencies were presented DUI enforcement awards in front of their peers. Drawings were held for qualified agencies to win law enforcement equipment, including two fully equipped police vehicles to be used specifically for DUI enforcement.

The Charleston County Sheriff's Office picked up an Agency of the Year award for it's 162 DUI arrests – the most DUI arrests made by an agency of it's size (100 or more officers) in South Carolina in 2013.  Bonneau Police Department, located in Berkeley County, took home the same award for it's size (1-10 officers) with 47 DUI arrests.

Several officers from the Charleston and Berkeley County Sheriffs' Offices, as well as City of Charleston, North Charleston, Goose Creek and Summerville Police Departments, picked up individual awards for their number of DUI arrests.  A North Charleston Officer was named one of five Officers of the Year for his 100 DUI arrests in 2013.
