Law enforcement officers from around South Carolina were honored Wednesday for their high number of DUI arrests made. SCDPS hosted the Eighth Annual DUI Enforcement Recognition and 2012 Law Enforcement DUI Challenge Ceremonies.
Camden patrolman Tony Wages received the "Rookie of the Year" award for making nine DUI arrests, Lance Cpl. Jeffrey L. Fortner received the "Highway Patrol Trooper of the Year" award for 109 DUI arrests, and the Kershaw County Sheriff's Office received the "Agency of the Year" award for making 125 DUI arrests in 2012.
The DUI Challenge segment of the ceremony allowed several law enforcement agencies to enter a live drawing for the chance to win one of two fully equipped police vehicles.
Notice, however, that awards are given based on the number of DUI arrests, not DUI convictions, made. The conviction rate of the DUI arrests made do not factor into the awards
